SP5 CHARLES L. KING
US ARMY

Charles L. King, of Prosper, was born September 20, 1940. He joined the Army at the age of 18, in 1958. After spending ten years in the service, his scheduled twelve-month tour of duty in Vietnam began on August 24, 1968. Specialist 5th Class King was assigned to C Co. 2nd Bn. 47th Inf. (Mechanized) 3rd Brigade, 9th Inf. Div. based at a place called Binh Phuoc, about eight miles southwest of Saigon in the midst of the Mekong Delta. The 3rd Brigade was part of the Mobile Riverine Force (MRF) in the Delta area and was nicknamed the ‘Go Devils.’  On June 4, 1969, with just over two months left on his tour, Sp5 Charles King was killed by an enemy explosive device, a grenade, land mine, or booby trap, somewhere in Long An Province, at the age of 28. The name of Charles L. King can be found on the Wall in Washington, DC, at Panel 23W, Row 65.
